New Delhi: The 96th annual Academy Awards race has gained steam. The Oscar nominees for the forthcoming event were revealed on Tuesday. The most disappointing outcome is that 'Barbie', directed by Greta Gerwig, did not receive a nomination for Best Director or Actress in a Leading Role.

The Oscar snub of director Greta Gerwig and co-star Margot Robbie shocked actor Ryan Gosling, who plays a lead role in 'Barbie'. After the official list was released, Ryan Gosling, who portrayed Ken and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, made his first public statement.

Along with his co-star America Ferrera, Ryan Gosling received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. Gosling felt strongly that Greta Gerwig should have had a nomination for Best Director and Margot Robbie should have received a nomination for Best Actress, even though he supported America's nomination.

"I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films,” the actor penned a long note.

“And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.” Citing that there is no existence of Ken without Barbie he said, “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” he added.
