The entire nation is still mouring the death of legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar with tributes pouring in from all over the world. Indian music icon Lata Mangeshkar, passed away early on Sunday (February 6,2022) at the Breech Candy Hospital at the age of 92. Lata Ji had been admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital on January 8 after she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia.

Lata Mangeshkar has garnered several honours for her voice in the Indian music industry throughout the course of her eight-decade career. Few people are aware that a legendary singer once declined to receive the Filmfare Award.

In her career spanning over eight decades, Lata Mangeshkar crooned over thousands of songs in several languages.

Lata Mangeshkar simplicity always stood out. She has always been recognised for her strong morals and ideals, which she has upheld her entire life. Even when she was at the pinnacle of her career, she never compromised with her principles so much that she once refused to accept the prestigious Filmfare award.

It was back in 1958 when Filmfare nominated Lata Mangeshkar for the ‘Best Female Playback Singer’ for her song ‘Aaja Re Pardesi’ from the movie Madhumati. She declined to take the Filmfare as it was a frame of a naked lady.

The organisers then wrapped the black lady (Filmfare award) in a cloth and gave it to her.

Mangeshkar's fame has expanded far beyond her native India. The next generation can never see her but we will appreciate her music forever.
