New Delhi: On January 26, 1950, the Constitution of India came into effect replacing the Government of India Act thereby turning our nation into a newly formed Republic. Therefore, to honour this date, every year on January 26, Republic Day is celebrated in our country. This date has been chosen because it was on this day back in 1929 when the Declaration of Purna Swaraj (Indian Independence) was proclaimed by Indian National Congress.
