New Delhi: Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah starrer ‘Darlings’ is one of the most anticipated films of this month. The film’s trailer got a positive response and people are waiting for it to release on Netflix. On Tuesday, the first song of 'Darlings', called 'La Ilaaj', was released.
Sung by Arijit Singh, ‘La Ilaaj’ has been composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics have been written by Gulzar. Speaking about the song at the event, Alia said that the song touched her soul.
The song shows Alia remembering the old days with her husband (played by Vijay Verma), the love between the couple, and then it moves on to show the domestic abuse that Alia suffers. In one scene, Alia is seen lying on the floor with blood on her face.
Alia spoke about the song during the launch. She said she got goosebumps after listening to the track. “My reaction (to the song) was like an audience, and not as an actor or producer. My soul reacted to it. I got goosebumps as I heard Arijit Singh sing it. The moment it comes in the movie is also very crucial,” she said during the song launch.
Vishal Bhardwaj, who wrote the song, said, “Darlings is a unique film that deals with multiple strong and delicate emotions- and the songs in the film had to emulate the same. With La Ilaaj, we have attempted to create something soulful and fresh and I truly hope it resonates with audiences.”
Directed by Jasmeet K Reen, ‘Darlings’ is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Alia's production house Eternal Sunshine Productions. The film will release on Netflix on August 5, 2022.
The dark comedy is set in Mumbai against the backdrop of a conservative lower middle-class neighbourhood and traces the lives of mother and daughter as they find courage and love in exceptional circumstances.
