New Delhi: Tamil director Vetrimaaran, Bollywood directors Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Acclaimed-filmmaker Pa Ranjith and all-rounder Mayalalam filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan sat down for Hollywood Reporter India’s first Round Table conference to talk about the state of the respective regional industries, the business, theatre going experience, and the their process, while alos commenting on the Justic Hema Committee’s report.

During the interaction when the directors were asked if they wanted to ask each other something, Zoya Akhtar asked Tamil director Vetrimaaran if and how he could shoot without a proper script.

Saying that his producers are quite kind to him and how the ‘width and depth’ of an actor’s performance brings room for improvisation and changes in the film during shoot, Vetrimaaran also added that it all depends on the energy, the actors, how the scene is building and how he can better execute it.

The ‘Asuran’ director also gave an example of how his actors also support his process and this helps with the improvisation.

He said, “ I called Vijay Sethupathi to play a role for 8 days. I've shot with him for nearly 120 days so it's like everybody has like somehow they trust me and they've given their best.”

He also thanked his actors and producers adding, " I'm very very grateful for all my actors, producers, my my team to somehow believe in the vision I  have; they all share the vision and they just think that they should back me, they should stand by me. I think I'm a very very, what to say, gifted person that way and when I am telling the producer sir we'll finish this and he's saying, no sir sir you told that sequence please let us do it if not this film in which film(sic).”

Vetrimaaran is an acclaimed film director-writer, having given audiences National-Award winning films like  'Aadukalam', 'Visaranai' ,  'Asuran' among many others.
