New Delhi: 'The Kahmir Files', a movie by Vivek Agnihotri, transformed the way he approached filmmaking and captivated audiences across. The director's recent dramas have a harder-hitting tone. Agnihtori recently claimed in an interview that the cinema of Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan was a major factor in the downturn of Bollywood storytelling.
The director alleged in an interview with DNA that the pair had done grave damage to India's cultural fabric. “After the advent of Amitabh Bachchan as a superstar – not the one from Deewar but one from Shehanshah – the cinema after that never told real stories. Especially Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan’s cinema, that has actually damaged the cultural fabric of India in a very disastrous way. So, I felt it was important to tell real, honest stories," the filmmaker said in the interview.
Vivek Agnihotri frequently expresses his views about the state of Hindi cinema and the people in the industry on Twitter. In a recent chat with ABP Live, he was asked whether he will ever make a comedy or a romantic film in the future.
“I don't think so. Let Karan Johar make it, that's his department. The day Karan Johar starts making political films, I'll start making comedy or romance films,”he said.
In 1995's timeless film 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', Karan and Shah Rukh worked together for the first time. The romantic comedy Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, in which Shah Rukh Khan starred, was the next film in which he made his directorial debut. The two later worked together again on Nikkhil Advani's 2003 rom-com 'Love Aaj Kal' and Karan Johar's 2001 family drama 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'.
In 2012, Vivek Agnihotri made his directorial debut with the movie 'Chocolate'. Two years later, in 2014, he made the sensual thriller 'Zid'. His most recent films, such as 'The Kashmir Files', 'The Tashkent Files', and 'The Delhi Files', are based on real-life events.
