New Delhi: The multi-talented actor Vikrant Massey first gained recognition for his groundbreaking roles on television. Massey developed a reputation for mesmerising performances and charismatic screen presence throughout his time spent working on television. In an interview with ABPLive, the actor discussed why he left the TV industry: a clash of ideals with the content they were making.

Vikrant Massey's departure from television is an indication of a change in his professional trajectory towards more substantial and varied parts, as well as a reflection of his dedication to creative integrity.

In the interview, he was asked which medium (TV, OTT and Films) he liked the most.

The actor explained, “There was a reason why I left television. I do not enjoy television because I do not subscribe to the kind of content they are making. I find it very regressive even today. Maybe it's their definition of entertainment. They give substandard parts to women.”

I was a part of ‘Balika Vadhu’ and the show empowered hundreds and millions of people. I can proudly say the show contributed to a lot about women's safety and girl child education.”

According to Vikrant, he left several regressive programmes after being part of such an impactful show (Balika Vadhu). He said, “After doing that kind of content, I had a lot of fights with the makers and I have walked out of a few shows. I do not subscribe to their regressive content.”

“Talking about OTT and films - they are different mediums. I enjoy both actually. I like OTT because the characters are a little detailed there. You're making at least two or two-and-a-half films if we talk about tenure. And films have a different experience. It’s about community viewing - you laugh together and cry together.”

The actor shared that he doesn’t feel stuck in the stereotype of ‘boy next door’.

He said, “I don't think so. My writers and producers have been extremely kind. If I have done ‘12th Fail’, then I've also done ‘Haseen Dillruba’. So, I have some incredible opportunities coming and I'm really grateful for that. So, people have not put me in a bracket yet.”

Meanwhile, Vikrant recently won the Filmfare Awards 2024 for Best Actor (Critics) for '12th Fail'.
