Actor Sonakshi Sinha, who recently called out Mukesh Khanna for criticising her upbringing, continued to hold her ground during a roundtable discussion with her peers. She shared an experience where a male actor told her she looked too old to be cast opposite him in a film, despite him being much older than her in real life. Sonakshi expressed her relief at not having worked with the actor, emphasising that she has no interest in collaborating with such individuals.
Sonakshi Sinha on being body shamed and age shamed
When asked about the pressures that women still face in the film industry, she responded during the Zoom discussion, “It’s very evident that the same kind of expectations do not (apply) to a man. They are not age-shamed when they are romancing women who are 30 years younger than them. They are not shamed for having bellies, or less hair. It’s very obvious that the women have to take the brunt of it all.”
Sonakshi added, “In fact, I’ve had to deal with actors who are older than me who’ve said, ‘She looks older than us’. I just want to thank them. I don’t want to work with a person like you. It’s always the woman who is struggling to move past that, to push those barriers down, and to pave her way in something that should be as smooth as it is for a man. We’re all artists, at the end of the day, and for women, it shouldn’t be that much of a struggle.” Sonakshi exclaimed rhetorically, “Arey, main tumse 5-6 saal choti hoon!”
Sonakshi Sinha's response to Mukesh Khanna
Recently, Sonakshi also responded to Shaktimaan actor Mukesh Khanna, who had questioned her father Shatrughan Sinha's parenting after she couldn’t answer a question about the Ramayana on Kaun Banega Crorepati. Sonakshi wrote in an Instagram story, “Yes, I may have blanked out that day, a human tendency, and forgotten who the Sanjeevani Booti was brought for, but clearly, you have also forgotten some of the lessons of forgive and forget taught by Lord Ram himself.”
