New Delhi: Businessman Raj Kundra recently opened up about the charges against him for the alleged creation and distribution of pornographic films. Raj spent more than two months in jail in 2021. In a recent interview, Raj candidly discussed the impact of the allegations, his subsequent arrest, and the enduring "porn-king" label on his marriage with actor Shilpa Shetty, as well as the reaction of their son, Viaan.

Raj disclosed that Shilpa's initial response to learning about the case was laughter. Despite the severity of the situation, their deep understanding of each other allowed Shilpa to dismiss the accusations and maintain her composure.

“It was horrible! But luckily, we know each other so well. If someone told me something about her, I know how much to believe. She broke into a laughter when she heard about the case and said it’s not true. If you are living at home together and there is something like porn involved, you would know. We are both self-made. She knew it was rubbish but maintained her silence and dignity. There is a public perception she had to live up to. Unfortunately, she bore the brunt of me being involved by losing certain contracts, work on television. I found that very unfair,” Raj told Hindustan Times.

The entrepreneur also shared insights into how their son Viaan coped with the challenging circumstances. Viaan was 10 years old when the controversy unfolded, and he would question Shilpa about the situation. Shilpa, in turn, advised him "not to google" his father's name.

“Viaan asked what’s happening, so Shilpa told him ‘there are hundreds of questions dad has to answer. Once he does, he will be back’… Viaan was 10. Shilpa spoke to someone at his school, god knows what parents were telling their children. He is a rock solid kid. He would draw something and send it to me with a letter in jail. He would write ‘papa missing you, come back soon, finish your work’,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Raj emphasised Viaan's unwavering belief in him, describing how the child viewed him as a hero. “For Viaan, I am his hero. Viaan knew his dad’s company is on his name, I would do no wrong. For him, it’s like a bad dream.” he added.

Raj made a film on his time in jail titled "UT69," where he not only starred but also penned the script. The film was released on November 3, 2023.
