At the IIFA 2024 pre-event in Mumbai, Shah Rukh Khan playfully teased filmmaker Karan Johar for spending more time hosting chat shows than making movies. The duo, set to co-host the upcoming IIFA 2024 later this month, engaged in light-hearted banter that entertained the audience.
Shah Rukh Khan roasts Karan Johar
In a video shared on Reddit, Shah Rukh humorously remarked, "Karan has told me he's not going to rehearse for hosting, he’ll do it on Zoom." Karan, standing next to him, appeared surprised and slightly embarrassed. He fumbled while speaking, eventually covering his face with his hands.
Shah Rukh continued, jokingly adding that Karan had previously said, "'Bhai, main Zoom pe karlunga. Main badi jaldi karta hoon. Main toh itna hosting karta hoon'...Picture bhi bana mere bhai. Tu kitna host karega (I'll do it on Zoom. I’m quick at this. I host so much'...Make some films too, how much hosting will you do)?"
Laughing, Karan responded, "I was thinking the same when Siddhant (Chaturvedi) said it. I thought, ‘This sounds so wrong for a filmmaker.’ I should be making more movies. That's exactly what I should be doing."
Karan has previously hosted the reality show Bigg Boss OTT and the popular celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan. He and Shah Rukh have collaborated on several films, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, My Name is Khan, and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
Netizens' reaction to Shah Rukh Khan's comment
On Reddit, Shah Rukh's witty comment sparked conversation, with one user captioning the post, "SRK's wit and humor are unmatched. He's so charming.. PS: Is he hinting at a future collaboration?" A fan added, "That’s true though. KJo has stopped exploring and taking risks in his directorial work." Another user noted, "He’s said this before. KJo is wasting his time on side gigs instead of focusing on storytelling."
