New Delhi: Actress Saiyami Kher has been promoting her upcoming sports drama ‘Ghoomer’. She recently spoke out about the industry's toxic beauty standards. The actress said that when she first started out, several people suggested her to enhance her physical features. Saiyami reflected on the time when she was being pressured to have cosmetic surgery at the tender age of 18. In spite of the difficulties, she was able to overcome them with the support of her loved ones.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Saiyami Kher revealed a horrifying personal story. Saiyami, thinking back on her experiences as a newcomer to the film business, said, "When I was starting out, there were a lot of people who said I should get a lip job and even a nose job done, which I think is a very wrong advice to give to 18-year-old. It’s like the society you’re living in is cooperating and accepting the way you are, but you don’t fit the norms set by the industry.”

Saiyami Kher says she encourages everyone to be themselves. She said, “These norms really didn’t bother me, but I hope they completely disappear from our industry. we need to accept diversity in showbiz.”

The actress continued by saying that Bollywood is actively working to dispel these beauty stereotypes. She said, “Things are getting better. There is more awareness and we are celebrating these days with regards to everything, which is very necessary in films, as it’s a large medium where people get easily influenced.

Saiyami is set to appear in the forthcoming sports drama ‘Ghoomer’ as a cricketer with a disability, with Abhishek Bachchan portraying her coach. The film is all set to release on August 18.

Saiyami Kher is known for her performances in Mirzya, Special Ops, Choked, Faadu, and Breathe: Into the Shadows among others.
