New Delhi: Renowned for captivating audiences both on and off the screen, Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh recently found himself entangled in a new digital crime. A fabricated AI (artificial intelligence) generated deepfake video, purportedly showcasing the actor expressing political opinions during his recent visit to Varanasi, recently surfaced online. While the visuals appeared authentic, the audio featured an AI-enabled voice clone of Ranveer Singh.
In a recent development, the official spokesperson for Ranveer Singh confirmed that a formal police complaint has been lodged, and an FIR has been filed with the Cyber Crime Cell for further investigation. Providing insight into the situation, the spokesperson stated, “Yes, we have filed the police complaint and an FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Mr. Ranveer Singh.”

Earlier, Ranveer Singh took to social media to caution his followers, urging them to beware of deepfakes.
Police Files FIR After Deepfake Video of Aamir Khan Surfaces
Other than Ranveer Singh, a deepfake video featuring Aamir Khan endorsing a political party circulated widely across social media platforms. The video prompted Mumbai police to register an FIR. The FIR, lodged at the Khar Police station by Khan's office, cited relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 419 (impersonation) and 420 (cheating), alongside other provisions of the Information Technology Act.
The spokesman for Aamir Khan called the video "fake" and released a statement that reads: “We want to clarify that Mr Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections.”
