New Delhi: Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas called the passing of the women's reservation bill a "historic milestone" and said the next step would be to swiftly and effectively implement it. Priyanka expressed her appreciation for the long-awaited bill, Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, being passed by the Parliament earlier this week, by taking to her Instagram Stories.
"Inspiring a new age with this historic milestone...The passing of the women's reservation bill - 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' is indeed a step in the right direction, but the crucial next phase is its swift and effective implementation. Here's to an India that truly supports and empowers its women!" the actor, now based out of Los Angeles, wrote.
The Rajya Sabha unanimously approved the measure on Thursday, giving it the parliamentary seal of approval. The bill will reserve one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women. It was approved by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Now, it needs to be approved by the majority of state assemblies.
However, the reserve won't go into effect until the census and delimitation processes are finished.
The bill has received support from actors like Kangana Ranaut, Bhumi Pednekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Kirti Kulhari in the past.
Kangana also took to social media and wrote, “We are all witnessing beginning of a new age. Our time has come. This is the time of the girl child (no more female foeticide) this is the time of the young women (no more clinging to men for safety and security), this is the time of the Middle-aged women (no you are not unwanted and won't be devalued anymore) this is the time of the elderly women (the world needs your wisdom and experience as well , your time has come) Welcome to the new world. Welcome to the Bharat of our dreams #WomenReservationBill”
