Bollywood actor Preity Zinta recently opened up about her journey to motherhood, sharing that she underwent IVF treatment before choosing surrogacy to welcome her twins, Jai and Gia, with husband Gene Goodenough in 2021. The actress candidly discussed the emotional challenges she faced during this period, sharing that maintaining her public image as a "sunshine person" often conflicted with her personal struggles.
Preity Zinta on IVF cycles
Speaking to Vogue India, Preity shared, "I have good days and bad days just like everyone else. Sometimes it’s a struggle to always be happy-go-lucky in real life, especially when you’re going through a tough phase. I used to feel like that during my IVF cycles. It was very difficult to be smiley and nice all the time. Sometimes I just wanted to bang my head on the wall and cry or not talk to anybody. So yes, it has to be a balancing act for all actors."
Preity on women's biological clock
Preity, who will be seen in ‘Lahore 1947’ next, spoke about the challenges women face in balancing career and family and about the reality of the "biological clock.”
"It’s important to focus on career, but being a woman, one also needs to realise that life is not completely fair and there is no level playing ground as the biological clock is real. People forget that for women, as actors, your craft is important, you want a body of work, but family is equally important. Now that my kids are over two years old, I felt I was ready to get back to work,” she told Vogue India.
Speaking about her social media presence, Preity said, “I prefer to keep it real because that’s who I am. Most of the stuff (not all) I put on social media is usually shot and edited by me, and sometimes you’ll see my head is cut off or my leg is cut off in certain frames, but I’m okay with that.”
Preity and Gene, who tied the knot in 2016, shared the news of their twins' birth via surrogacy on Instagram in 2021.
