Madhura Pandit Jasraj, the accomplished filmmaker and wife of the iconic music maestro Pandit Jasraj, passed away in Mumbai early Wednesday due to age-related health issues. She was 86 years old.
According to family spokesperson Pritam Sharma, her final rites will take place at the Oshiwara crematorium in Mumbai later in the evening. Madhura leaves behind two children—son Shaarang Dev Pandit, a music director, and daughter Durga Jasraj, a well-known television personality.

Madhura, the daughter of legendary filmmaker V Shantaram, married music maestro Pandit Jasraj in 1962.
She wore many hats throughout her illustrious career. She was a director, producer, and writer, having made her mark not only in films but also in theatre and literature. One of her notable works includes a biography of her father, titled "V Shantaram: The Man Who Changed Indian Cinema."
Oldest debutant filmmaker
In 2010, she set a record by becoming the oldest debutant filmmaker when she directed the Marathi movie "Aai Tujha Aashirwad." This achievement earned her a spot in the Limca Book of Records. The film’s soundtrack featured compositions by her husband, Pandit Jasraj.
Madhura also created a biographical short film on her husband’s extraordinary life and musical journey, titled "Sangeet Martand Jasraj."
