Nick Jonas is gearing up for his return to Broadway in The Last Five Years, but his rehearsals recently took an unexpected turn. The singer-actor, 32, suffered a major wardrobe mishap while practicing a scene, leaving him with a ripped pair of cargo pants—right at the crotch.

Sharing the hilarious moment on Instagram on March 4, Jonas held up the torn pants and recounted the incident.

"During rehearsal today for The Last Five Years, I was singing, 'Moving Too Fast,' one of my character Jamie's songs. I'm supposed to jump onto this platform and, you know, then pull my costar Adrienne Warren up onto the platform with me and keep singing," he explained.

Although the musical hasn’t officially opened yet—previews begin on March 18, with the show premiering on April 6—Jonas had quite an audience. Director Whitney White, composer Jason Robert Brown, the stage management team, the musical director, and musicians were all watching.

As he executed the move, Jonas recalled, "I hear a [ripping sound] and I'm like, 'Oh, no, oh, no.' And I feel a cool breeze in a place you don't want to feel cool breeze," he joked.

Holding up his damaged pants, he added, "This is what happened to my pants. Yeah, so get a look at that right there, the whole way down. They're not tight pants by any means. It just was the perfect spot in the position that I jumped up."

Despite efforts to patch up the pants with duct tape and safety pins, the stage management team ultimately saved the day by making a Target run and picking up black shorts for him to finish rehearsals in.

Nick Jonas' Broadway Career

While Jonas is best known as part of the Jonas Brothers, he has a strong Broadway background, having started his career as a child actor with roles in Les Misérables and Beauty and the Beast. Before The Last Five Years, his last Broadway appearance was in 2012 when he played J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, taking over from Darren Criss.
