Speaking with ANI, the actor-turned-politician said, “I don’t have words. Neither I can laugh nor cry. This is such a big thing… I could not have imagined this. I am extremely happy. I dedicate this to my family and my fans across the world.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his delight on Monday over the seasoned actor receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, praising him as a 'cultural icon'.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, "Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema." "He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him," he said.
On Monday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award this October.
In a post on X, he wrote, “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema.”
Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut in 1977. He started his career with ‘Mrigayaa’ and gained fame with the 1982 hit ‘Disco Dancer’, which achieved remarkable success across the globe.
