New Delhi: The survival thriller 'Joram', which stars Manoj Bajpayee and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, premiered in cinemas on December 8. Written and directed by Devashish Makhija, the story revolves around a man (who's name is Dasru) in dire circumstances, accompanied by his baby daughter, as he attempts to escape a relentless system determined to oppress them at any expense.
In a conversation with ABP Live, Manoj Bajpayee, who plays the character of 'Dasru', shared what made him say yes to the movie, the preparations he required and so much more.
Talking about what intrigued him to say 'yes' to the film, Bajpayee said, "Ek nayi duniya- Such a world which people rarely know about. People know about 'adivasis', but they don't know what's it like to be one. And, Devashish has written such an engaging script that when I was reading it, I couldn't stop."
Recalling a complement received from Shekhar Kapoor, who said, "Mujhe pata hi nahi chala main film ke andar kab chala gaya", Manoj Bajpayee told that if one receives such a kind of script, you don't have any other choice but to do the film.
Sharing the preparations he had to do to play 'Dasru', Manoj said, "Devashish had told me about this role in the year 2016 after which we had a lot of interactions. With Devashish, things become easier because he prepares the notes and gives them to me. So, whenever I have some free time, I keep reading them or if any changes are required, I do those as well. In this way, he saves me from the initial preparation. He has the entire vision of the character and it becomes easy to understand how he wants it to be. This enables me to visualise the entire graph of the character before shoot and I always like it when my character has consistency."
Talking about the extreme conditions under which the shoot took place, Bajpayee recalled, "It was very hot during that time and we were in an open iron ore mine. The first mine where we shot was Noamundi, which was a working mine, while the second mine was a dead one. So, the temperatures in these mines were five to six degrees higher. The entire unit was there and once you are on shoot, you can just go upwards. There was no shade... So, there were a lot of challenges, but then again, that's our work. And, that is what distracts us from all the difficulties."
Manoj Bajpayee, being a seasoned actor, has done several roles throughout his career with each being different from the other. Sharing whether he still takes time to adapt to a role, Bajpayee said, "Yes, it is still difficult, because you still have to figure out the way to get a grasp on your character. The character seems fascinating, but it is difficult to find a way to approach the character so that it can be given uniqueness, which ultimately decides how my performance will be."
