New Delhi: A lot of controversies have already surrounded actor Kangana Ranaut, who has just begun her political career. It was during a recent summit that Kangana expressed her outrage over the unfair remarks made by Congress members, after which she was questioned about similar comments she had made about Urmila Matondkar.
Kangana Ranaut defends comments about Urmila Matondkar
A while ago, Kangana described the seasoned performer as a “soft porn” actor. When pushed to clarify her remarks, Kangana now wondered why it was considered disrespectful to refer to someone as a "porn star" considering how well-respected many porn actors are.
“Is soft porn or porn star an objectionable term? No. It is not an objectionable term. It is a word that is not socially acceptable. Humare desh mein jitna porn star ko respect milta hai, puchiye Sunny Leone se, utna respect poore world mein kisiko nahi mil sakta (No other country treats porn stars with such respect as we do, you can ask Sunny Leone),” Kangana said at the Times Now Summit.
"I was asked to comment on Urmila ji (Matondkar) asking on what basis was the BJP considering me for a foray into politics. That was her question. I believe there are different realms of art,” she said.
Kangana Ranaut talks about item songs in Bollywood
Kangana continued to talk about Bollywood's item song culture by pointing out that women here are used to labels like "tandoori murgi," so why was a phrase like "soft porn actor" deemed "violating".
"I am not justifying anything. If these actresses are comfortable with words such as tandoori murgi, item girl, Sheila ki Jawani, why is it seen as something violating? It is a matter of fact, if they are comfortable with this, why do you want to shame them? I personally do not think I had any intention of shaming her (Urmila Matondkar) because she is very comfortable in that role," the actor added.
In a 2020 interview with Times Now, Kangana—who just condemned a nasty post written by a Congress lawmaker against her—made an explosive remark about Urmila.
Kangana had said, “I saw one very derogatory interview given by Urmila Matondkar. The way she was talking about me, pulling faces, making a mockery about my struggles, attacking me on the fact that I am trying to appease BJP for a ticket. One doesn’t have to be a genius to figure that for me it is not very difficult to get a ticket. Urmila is a soft porn star. She is not known for her acting for sure, what is she known for? For doing soft porn right. If she could get a ticket, why wouldn’t I get a ticket?"
As a candidate for the BJP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut will be contesting in the Lok Sabha elections.
