New Delhi: Tollywood producer KP Chowdhary was detained by the Cyberabad Police on June 13 for alleged drugs possession. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) caught him as he was leaving his Kismatpur residence in Hyderabad's Rajendranagar neighbourhood. According to reports, police found 90 sachets of cocaine weighing 82.75 grams in his possession.
The 'Kabali' producer had been in Goa for some time and allegedly bought drugs there. He allegedly spent 100 sachets, but the cops only found 90 of them on him. According to reports, when the police apprehended him, he was probably on his way out of his house to deliver drugs to customers.
The accused, Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdhary, lives in Khammam district's Bonakal mandal. He obtained his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering and later served as Director of Operations at the Indian Institute of Aeronautical Engineering and Technology in Pune, Maharashtra State.
He quit his job and started working in the film industry in 2016. As a producer, he made the Telugu version of the 'Kabali' movie. In addition, he became the distributor of two Telugu films and one Tamil film, including Kanithan (Arjun Survaram), starring Tamil hero Atharva, and Sardar Gabbar Singh, starring Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, and Seetamma Vaktilo Sirimalle Chettu.
KP Chowdhary did, however, maintain cordial relationships with a few notable movie stars during this period. After that, he relocated to Goa where he founded OHM Club. In the month of April 2023, he returned to Hyderabad due to business losses.
According to reports, the Enforcement Directorate and other organisations would now question KP Chowdhary more thoroughly.
Meanwhile, in 2021, a lot of Tollywood celebrities were approached for inquiries regarding drug use in the film business. In connection with the 2017 case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned 12 Tollywood actors and directors, including Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Daggubati, Ravi Teja, Puri Jagannadh, Charmme Kaur, and Mumaith Khan.
