His shocked reaction was captured live as hosts Shah Rukh Khan and Vicky Kaushal announced his name, inviting him to the stage to receive the award.

Shah Rukh and Vicky presented Karan with the award, leading a heartfelt tribute. Shah Rukh began by saying, "Legacy is what you create for the ages," with Vicky adding, "For generations. Or generally, parents leave behind a legacy for their children." Shah Rukh continued, "And sometimes there are fortunate parents whose children carry that legacy forward. This is for a cute, little boy who not only fulfilled his father's dreams but also took them to new heights. My brother, my friend, my partner in both good and bad times—the one and only Karan Johar."

As the camera panned to Karan, he looked genuinely surprised, mouthing, "What? Me?" He then made his way to the stage, giving Vicky a tight hug before touching Shah Rukh's feet in gratitude while accepting the award.
