Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali was found dead earlier this week in her Karachi apartment, months after she had actually passed away. Her body, discovered in a severely decomposed state in the Defence Housing Society, shocked the entertainment fraternity and public alike. Initial post-mortem findings indicated that she had died around eight to ten months ago, sometime in October 2024.
Humaira Asghar Ali's voice note to her friend
Now, days after the discovery, a voice note, reportedly sent by Humaira to her close friend Dureshehwar, has gone viral on social media. Believed to have been recorded in September 2023, the audio message captures the actress asking for heartfelt prayers for her future and career.
“I’m so sorry, I was travelling, caught up here and there. I’m so happy tum Makkah me ho. Mere liye bohot saari please… apni cutie si dost/ behen ke liye bohot saari dil se dua karna. For my career, dua me zarur yaad rakhna. Mere liye bohot saari tumhe dua karni hai,” she says in the clip.
Humaira's CDR shows last call made in October 2024
While the voice note dates back to 2023, police have now confirmed that the last outgoing call from Humaira’s phone was made in October 2024, indicating that she likely died shortly after.
“As per Call Detail Record (CDR), the last call was made in October 2024,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza told Arab News.
Police also stated that her apartment’s electricity had been disconnected in the same month due to unpaid bills. Food in the house had long expired, and storage jars had rusted—supporting claims that her death went unnoticed for nearly nine months. Since the only other apartment on her floor was unoccupied, neighbours hadn’t noticed any foul smell or movement for months.
The autopsy could not determine an exact cause of death due to the level of decomposition. “We are awaiting the chemical examination and histopathological reports. However, it appears that no foul play was involved in this case,” police was quoted as saying by PTI, adding that legal action will be taken only if evidence suggests otherwise.
Humaira's funeral was held in Lahore
Humaira’s funeral was held in Lahore’s Model Town on Friday, but very few people attended. Her family initially refused to claim her body, reportedly disowning her for pursuing a career in showbiz—a decision that sparked outrage on social media and prompted various individuals and organisations to offer help with the burial.
Her brother Navid Asghar eventually accepted her remains after a DNA match and clarified: “The media’s focus was entirely on our family. It never highlighted other possible causes of death.” He admitted, however, that the family had cut ties with Humaira for going against their wishes. “She moved to Karachi and had been living there for the last seven years. She didn’t contact us for a year, although our mother would reach out to her some of the time,” he said, adding that her phone had been off for the last six months.
