New Delhi: An investigation is still ongoing into Matthew Perry's sudden death. After an autopsy revealed contrary findings, the cause of death for Perry—best known for playing Chandler Bing on the popular sitcom 'Friends'—remains unidentified. The actor passed away in a hot tub inside his house on Saturday. He was 54.
According to CNN, records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office show that more investigation is needed before the cause of death can be determined.
The cause of death for Perry was listed as "deferred" in the medical examiner's updated online record on Sunday afternoon. The autopsy has been finished, and the results are awaiting a toxicology report, which could take several weeks to come in, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, which confirmed this to PEOPLE.
“In cases where the cause of death cannot be determined at the time of autopsy, a deferred certificate will be issued until additional studies have been completed,” according to the LA coroner’s guidelines.
A law enforcement source reportedly said investigators are going to use the toxicology tests to look into any possibility that Perry's death was caused by foreign substances.
Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles home on October 28. It is reported that he drowned, but no drugs have been found at the site, and no signs of foul play are suspected. However, the actor revealed his long battle with alcohol and prescription drug addiction in his memoir 'Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing', published in 2022.
During Friends' run from 1994 to 2004, which was one of the most watched television series, Matthew Perry became widely known. Alongside him on screen were Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, and Courteney Cox.
