New Delhi: Veteran actor Zeenat Aman remembered late superstar Dev Anand on the occasion of his 100th birth anniversary. The actor, who made her debut with Dev Anand, took to Instagram and called the late actor ‘stylish, suave and prolific.’
Zeenat shared the stills from their films ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ and ‘Heera Panna’ and wrote, “Celebrating 100 years of Dev saab. Stylish, suave and prolific, he was a dynamo beyond compare. And what generosity of talent! He sparked careers (mine included), brought together creative heads, and made films that resonated across generations. It gladdens my heart to see his legacy honoured an entire century since his birth. In recent days, I’ve been overwhelmed with requests for comments about him but there is little to add to what I’ve already said.”
She then wrote about the three-part series he had done on the late actor recently and wrote, “Though, I posted a three-part series about him just a few weeks ago, I can’t resist the nostalgia of these two frames from our earliest films together. They will be instantly recognisable to my older followers, but I’m not so sure about you younger lot!”
In her earlier posts about Dev Anand, Zeenat shared how she got ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ in which she played Dev Anand’s sister. In the second post, the actor had shared a few anecdotes about working with Dev Anand, and in her concluding post about the actor, Zeenat had revealed about the ‘only misunderstanding’ between them.
Zeenat started her career with modelling and entered the Femina Miss India pageant in 1970 and came second. She then competed - and won - in the Miss Asia Pacific International pageant, becoming the first Femina Miss India titleholder to win the pageant.
Her role in ‘Hare Ram, Hare Krishna’ brought her into the limelight, while ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’ (1973) further cemented her position. She continued to rule through the 1970s and 1980s, often paired with reigning stars like Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabha Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor. In the latter part of 1970s, she was also the highest or second-highest paid Bollywood actress, along with Hema Malini.
