Boney Kapoor Says He Married Sridevi In Shirdi, Denies Janhvi Kapoor Being Born Out Of Wedlock

Boney Kapoor has claimed that he married Sridevi in Shirdi in 1996 and that he only publicised his second marriage a few months later, in January, when it was obvious that Sridevi was pregnant.

New Delhi: Boney Kapoor has claimed that he married Sridevi in Shirdi in 1996 and that he only publicised his second marriage a few months later, in January, when it was obvious that Sridevi was pregnant. He recounted the time Sridevi was carrying their daughter Janhvi Kapoor while speaking to YouTuber Rohan Dua in an interview. Additionally, he denied reports that Janhvi was conceived prior to his wedding with Sridevi.

Boney Kapoor And His Religious Convictions

When asked about his religious convictions, the filmmaker said that neither he nor other members of his family hide their religious identity. Boney Kapoor said, "Whether it was Sri (Sridevi), whether it was Mona (his first wife), whether it was me or Anil (brother Anil Kapoor) or my daughter Janhvi. (We are religious). She goes to Tirupathi every three months. My wife Sridevi used to walk to Tirupathi on every birthday of hers. Whenever I was in trouble, she walked from Juhu to Siddhi Vinayak barefoot."

On being asked about getting married to Sridevi in a temple, the filmmaker said, "My second marriage, my marriage with Sri (took place in Shirdi). We got married on June 2. We exchanged vows, we spent a night there and it was only in January when her pregnancy was seen that we had no choice, but to marry publicly. It took place in Shirdi, on June 2. (But), in public, we were married only in January (1997). That is why some scribes still write she (Janhvi) was born before marriage, something like that."

Sridevi's Chennai Home

Additionally, he discussed Sridevi's Chennai home, which holds a special place in his heart. According to the filmmaker, the house wasn't used enough, and the dampness that seeped into the locked rooms forced him to restore the entire structure. The house had separate rooms for all their family members including their parents and brothers Anil and Sanjay Kapoor. He continued by saying that even though he altered the area (via restoration), he can still feel Sridevi's presence there.

Boney and Sridevi's Marriage

Boney and Sridevi welcomed Janhvi and Khushi into the world after their 1996 wedding. Arjun and Anshula Kapoor were already among the two kids Boney had with his former wife Mona Shourie.

Sridevi unexpectedly passed away in February 2018 after accidentally drowning in a hotel bathtub during a wedding in Dubai.
