Birbhum Lok Sabha Results 2024: Trinamool Congress's (TMC) Satabdi Roy won the Birbhum seat by defeating BJP's Debtanu Bhattacharya by 197650 votes. Actor-turned-politician Satabdi Roy has raked in 717961 votes against Debtanu Bhattacharya who got 520311 votes. This will be her fourth term as MP.


Citing technical reasons, the district election office revoked the candidature of former IPS officer Debasish Dhar, who had been fielded by the BJP from the Birbhum Lok Sabha seat. Later, BJP’s senior leader Debtanu Bhattacharya, who is one of the 11 clusters-in-charge of the BJP in Bengal, filed his nomination papers to contest the Lok Sabha election.


Roy became a Member of Parliament when she emerged victorious in the 2009 Lok Sabha election on a Trinamool Congress ticket from the Birbhum constituency. The actor managed to retain the seat in the consecutive elections held in 2014 and 2019.


On the acting front, Satabdi Roy entered the Bengali film industry in the 1980s and has had a remarkable career spanning over three decades. The actor last appeared on the big screen in 2018 in the superhero film 'Bizli'.


In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, 12 candidates were vying for the Birbhum seat.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections, Trinamool Congress' (TMC) Satabdi Roy defeated Dudh Kumar Mondal of the BJP in the Birbhum seat. The margin of victory was 88,924 votes which was 6.14% of the total number of votes cast. In this seat, TMC's vote share in 2019 was 45.11%.


In 2014, Satabdi Roy defeated Dr. Elahi Kamre Mahammad of the CPM by a margin of 67,263 votes, which was 5.27% of the total number of votes cast in the constituency. 


In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Satabdi won this seat, defeating Braja Mukherjee of CPM by a margin of 61,519 votes. Trinamool Congress had a vote share of 47.81% in the seat.


Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency went to the polls in Phase 4 of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on May 13.
