New Delhi: Aaliyah Kashyap is the daughter of well-known director Anurag Kashyap and is known for candidly opening up about her experiences. Aaliyah and Shane Gregoire, who just got engaged, host a podcast called ‘Opposites Attract’ in which they discuss relationships, life, and other random topics. The pair discussed their struggles with low self-esteem and their ideas on how to build confidence in their most recent episode. Aaliyah received attention for speaking openly about her struggles with weight gain a traumatic experience in which a friend called her "fat."
In the episode ‘Exposing Our Insecurities’, Aaliyah opens up in the video about her struggles with body image and weight, highlighting the significant psychological toll these issues can have.
She reveals that she struggles with gaining weight, despite her best attempts of eating more. Aaliyah also mentions that her mother, Aarti Bajaj, had to deal with the same condition, which further emphasises the hereditary nature of weight problems in their family. She said, “I used to eat a lot and I always wanted to put on weight because I was scary skinny. No matter how much I ate, I couldn’t put on weight and my mom used to be like that when she was younger too. So I knew it was kind of genetic.”
She added, "When I started taking antidepressants, I started putting on so much weight. I think I've put on about 12 or 13 kg in the last year and a half.”
Aaliyah reflected on the last time she had contacted her "massage lady". She said the massage lady told her, "Oh my God, you have become fat since the last time I saw you!"
She added, “And I remember I went on the massage table, put my face between the hole, and started crying.”
Aaliyah continued by saying that she is now in a better place. “When I first gained weight, and comments started coming in, it felt like an end. Now I'm in the mindset that if I’m not happy about it, I’m gonna change it in a healthy way. Obviously, I’m still insecure, but I’m in a healthier mindset about it,” she said.
