Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has earned a spot on TIME Magazine's prestigious second annual TIME 100 AI list, which honors the 100 most influential individuals in the field of artificial intelligence. Alongside Kapoor, the list includes globally recognised figures such as Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson, YouTuber Marques Brownlee, artist Lawrence Lek, comedian and AI creator King Willonius, and tech leaders like Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and Satya Nadella.

Anil Kapoor features in TIME 100 AI list

Anil Kapoor's inclusion in the TIME AI list comes a year after his significant legal victory in September 2023, when the Delhi High Court issued an interim order preventing 16 entities from misusing his name, voice, image, or personal attributes for commercial purposes without consent. The actor took legal action after the widespread circulation of morphed videos and emojis using his image and his famous phrase "jhakaas" from the 1985 film Yudh.

"It's not just for me," Kapoor told Variety at the time. "Today, I'm here to protect myself, but when I'm gone, my family should have the right to protect my personality and benefit from it in the future."

Anil Kapoor emphasized that his aim was not to restrict anyone’s freedom of expression or impose penalties but to safeguard his personality rights and prevent any misuse for commercial purposes, especially with the rise of technology and AI tools.

Actors and deepfake videos

Recently, many actors have fallen victim to deepfake videos. An eerie deepfake video of Alia Bhatt and Rashmika Mandanna went viral, while AI-generated videos of Aamir Khan and Ranveer Singh also attracted attention during this year's elections, where they appeared to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
