Ameesha Patel Appears Before Ranchi Court In Fraud And Cheque Bounce Case
Ajay Kumar Singh, a film producer from Jharkhand, filed a charge of fraud and cheque bounce against Ameesha in 2018.
New Delhi: Ameesha Patel appeared before the civil court in Ranchi on Monday over a case involving a bounced cheque. The Bollywood actor appeared before senior division judge D N Shukla's court and offered a not-guilty plea. Ajay Kumar Singh, a film producer from Jharkhand, filed a charge of fraud and cheque bounce against Ameesha in 2018.
Singh allegedly deposited Rs 2.5 crore to the actor's bank account for the making of the movie 'Desi Magic', the petitioner claims. Patel, however, decided against making the movie and instead sent a cheque for Rs. 2.5 crore. However, the cheque offered by the actor apparently bounced. According to Smita Pathak, the complainant's attorney, the actor has been called to appear before the court on June 21. But she refused, citing her scheduled engagements.
“We have urged for mediation in the case," Pathak added.
The actor made headlines for saying that Indian viewers are looking for "clean" entertainment that is absent from OTT platforms. She said in an interview with Bollywood Hungama that OTT platform shows are "full of homosexuality," forcing parents to keep tabs and use child locks on TVs.
“People are waiting for a good, clean cinema. The era where you could make cinema that a grandchild could sit and watch with a grandparent is completely missing. OTT for sure doesn’t give you that. Because OTT is full of, homosexuality, gay-lesbianism… Scenes that you have to cover your kids’ eyes or actually put a child lock on your television so they can’t access those platforms. It’s not something you really want your kids to watch." Ameesha told Bollywood Hungama.
Meanwhile, Ameesha Patel will reprise her role as Sakeena in Sunny Deol's upcoming film 'Gadar 2', making her return to the big screen. Exactly 22 years after the first movie became a hit, on August 11, 2023, the sequel will be released in theatres.
