Boney Kapoor recently reflected on the days that followed his wife Sridevi's unexpected death in Dubai. The producer, who once smoked, made the decision to give it up for his wife. Janhvi Kapoor has already discussed how her late mother, actor Sridevi, persuaded her father Boney Kapoor to give up smoking.
However, Kapoor admitted that after Sridevi passed away in 2018, he experienced a tremendous urge to smoke once again. He said that the stress and anxiety had caused him to have a strong longing, but he had made the decision not to go back on the promise he had made to his wife years ago.
Boney Kapoor appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show in one of the most recent episodes with his daughter Janhvi Kapoor to promote their movie, 'Mili', and stated that he has been under a lot of stress since Sridevi passed away.
“When she passed away, when I was in Dubai for those 3-4 days, I had so much urge because I was all alone in distress, tension, anxiety, all those things, that was the only time I felt like smoking. But then I said that the minute she is gone, I want to smoke? If I truly love her, I will not. So, I didn’t then, and I have not touched… I have never had the urge also,” he reminisced.
During the same conversation, Boney recalled how he had quit smoking for the very first time in 1995, at the beginning of their relationship. He recounted that after handing Sridevi all of his cigarette packs in her room when they arrived at the hotel in New York, he stopped smoking for the next 12 years.
“When Sridevi and I started going out, one day when we were in New York, it was in 1995, she asked me, ‘you will do anything for me? you say you love me’ and I said ‘yeah’. She said, ‘stop smoking’,” he revealed.
Boney Kapoor and Sridevi were married for more than 20 years. The couple was in Dubai to attend the wedding of Mohit Marwah, together with their daughters Janhvi and Khushi. In 2018, the actress reportedly drowned in a hotel bathtub.
