Mumbai: The popular and young lyricist Shyam Dehati, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week, passed away in Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical Hospital.

Bhojpuri film writer Vikas Singh, who is also a friend of Shyam Dehati told ABP News, “Shyam lived in Bettiah district and was undergoing treatment at a hospital there due to Corona infection. But when his health deteriorated drastically on Sunday night, he was admitted to the BRD Medical Hospital in Gorakhpur today where he succumbed within an hour of being admitted.”

Vikas Singh told ABP News that Bhojpuri films popular actor Khesari Lal Yadav himself spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's PA to arrange beds in a hospital for Shyam Dehati. Only after this, Shyam was brought from Bettiah to Gorakhpur's BRD Medical Hospital via ambulance.

Shyam Dehati’s oxygen level decreased drastically and reached between 30-35.

Popular Bhojpuri actress Aamrapali Dubey shared a post for the actor and wrote, "I just can’t process the news yet 😭🙏🏻 Ohm Shanti 🙏🏻 @shyamdehati ji !"

ABP News also tried to contact Khesarilal Yadav, who went to shoot a song in Chandigarh, but he could not be contacted until the news was written.

Significantly, Shyam Dehati started his film career in 2007 as a lyricist from the movie 'Niruha Rickshawala'. He wrote songs for films of all the big stars of Bhojpuri including Khesari Lal Yadav, Ravi Kishan, Dineshlal Yadav Niruha, Manoj Tiwari and also gave music for many films. Shyam Dehati had made a distinct identity in the Bhojpuri industry as a songwriter and musician in a short time.

Apart from being a lyricist and a musician, Shyam Dehati also made his debut as a hero in a Bhojpuri film called 'Rani Dilbar Jani' three years ago, but his coinage did not work as an actor in films.
