Bappi Lahiri Birth Anniversary: Interesting Facts And Popular Songs Created By The Legend

Bappi Lahiri was the first Indian composer to be selected for the Grammy jury in 2012. For the movies Moana and Lion, the composer received nominations in 2017 for the Oscars and Golden Globes.

New Delhi: The evergreen 'Disco King',  Bappi Lahiri, was a stalwart of the Indian music industry. After fighting obstructive sleep apnea, the composer-singer passed away in February this year. He was 69. 

Here are some of the legend's best songs that have the unique ability not only to evoke strong emotions but they have also stuck with us long after the song has ended, despite the fact that it is impossible to choose from the abundance of popular songs that he has written and performed. 

But, before that let's know some interesting facts about the musical legend:

1. From 1983 to 1985, Bappi Lahiri set a record by providing music for 12 extremely successful Silver Jubilee films.

2. Bappi Lahiri was the only Indian music director to receive an invitation from Jonathan Ross for a live performance on BBC London in 1989.

3. 'Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja', a well-known superhit song by Bappi Lahiri, was featured in the Hollywood movie You Don't Mess With The Zohan's.

4. He was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1986 for having recorded more than 180 songs for 33 films.

5. Lahiri was never hesitant to dress up and wear extravagant coats and jackets. He typically wore super-stylish jackets over T-shirts. His jackets were embellished with fashionable details, such as regal embroidery and elaborate collars.

6. In 2012, Bappi Lahiri played the lead role in the film 'It's Rocking: Dard-E-Disco'. Additionally, he made cameos in a number of movies, including 'Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi', 'Om Shanti Om', 'Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna', and 'Nayan Mony'.

7. Bappi Lahiri was the first Indian composer to be selected for the Grammy jury in 2012. For the movies 'Moana' and 'Lion', the composer received nominations in 2017 for the Oscars and Golden Globes. He sang in the movie 'Moana' and contributed his voice to the Hindi dubbing of the character 'Tamatoa'. Come Closer, a song by him was featured on Lion's soundtrack.
