New Delhi: The ideal blend of heartfelt passion and funny humour is what people remember most about the Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi film 3 Idiots. Suhan Tandon is one of the standout characters in the film. Suhas, portrayed by French actor Olivier Lafont, was mocked for being a live incarnation of a 'price tag'. He played Kareena Kapoor's fiancé, a figure who was mocked for his ostentatious lifestyle. In a comical scene, he yells out the cost of his shoes when Aamir accidentally splatters some chutney (sauce) on them.
Currently, Olivier is enjoying a wave of online support. Recently, several people on social media have been praising Olivier and admitting that they were wrong about his character. A user wrote a post in which he analysed Suhas, deemed him a "good person" who appreciated money, and said that he was "correct."
The French actor has now replied to the apology tweet for not understanding his character at the time.
Olivier sent a message on his Facebook that read: “Lately I've been getting messages from people 'apologising' about misunderstanding the character of Suhas Tandon that I played many years ago in the film 3 idiots, and then this post by Aaraynsh Singh went viral highlighting the conversation about a balanced understanding and appreciation of the place of money in life. It's amazing that both the movie and character had such an impact then, and even now. It's also nice that Suhas is finally getting some love.”
The 2009 film '3 Idiots' is directed by Rajkumar Hirani and is still widely regarded as a classic of Indian cinema. In addition to Olivier's Suhaas, other memorable characters include Omi’s Chatur and Boman Irani's Viru Sahastrabuddhe.
