Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra penned a letter to the people of Wayanad titled "My Dear Sisters and Brothers of Wayanad," expressing her deep connection with the constituency and her commitment to serve as a public representative. In the heartfelt letter, Priyanka shared her observations from a visit to the landslide-affected areas of Chooramala and Mundakkai alongside her brother, Rahul Gandhi, and spoke of the strength and unity displayed by the community in the face of tragedy.
In her letter, Priyanka Gandhi reflected on the devastation caused by the landslide and the immense losses suffered by the people. She commended the residents for coming together in the aftermath of the disaster, noting their solidarity, compassion, and resilience. "Through the darkness of the tragedy, what shone through to me was your immense courage and fortitude as a community," she wrote, praising the efforts of doctors, volunteers, public representatives, social workers and citizens in helping each other.
Touching upon her brother's close relationship with Wayanad, Priyanka acknowledged the pride and sadness Rahul Gandhi felt when asking her to contest from the constituency. She assured the people of Wayanad of her dedication to building upon the bond her brother established and vowed to continue representing their needs and concerns in Parliament.
She emphasised that she would prioritise issues affecting farming and tribal communities, as well as opportunities for women, expressing a deep commitment to "creating new opportunities to strengthen your future." Priyanka also spoke about the importance of protecting Wayanad’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage as central to the region's development.
Priyanka described this journey as one of learning and growth, declaring the people of Wayanad as her "guides and teachers" in this new role. She emphasised that her commitment to "fighting for democracy, justice, and values enshrined in the Constitution" would be central to her work. She expressed her hope to build on the community’s resilience and create a future that embraces Wayanad’s values, traditions, and aspirations.
