Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra sharpened her attack on the BJP-led Central government during her campaign for the Wayanad by-election, accusing it of neglecting the rehabilitation efforts for landslide-affected areas in the hill district. Addressing corner meetings for the second consecutive day in Wayanad, Priyanka criticised the Modi administration for failing to provide promised financial aid to the region, highlighting what she called the government's disregard for the people’s plight.
Speaking at Engapuzha in the Thiruvambady constituency, Priyanka stated, “The Prime Minister visited the district and made promises to the affected families, However, months later, the Central government did not provide any funds for the rehabilitation of the affected people,.”
Priyanka’s campaign focuses on retaining the seat vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi, following his victory in Rae Bareli during the recent general elections. She expressed her gratitude towards Wayanad’s people for standing by Rahul through challenging times, particularly when he faced smear campaigns targeting his character.
“A massive campaign was unleashed against my brother (Rahul Gandhi) to tarnish his reputation...Lots of money and lots of resources were poured into that campaign. There was a time when everybody was turning their back on him and at that time all of you loved him, voted for him and supported him,” she remarked, as per ANI, emphasising the bond between Wayanad’s voters and Rahul Gandhi.
Throughout the day, Priyanka is set to address multiple corner meetings in Therattammal (Eranad constituency), Mampad (Wandoor constituency), and Chungathara (Nilambur constituency).
Her speeches aimed to solidify her position as the Congress candidate against strong contenders like LDF’s veteran leader Sathyan Mokeri and BJP’s Navya Haridas, a two-time councillor of the Kozhikode Corporation.
The by-election in Wayanad is scheduled for November 13.
