New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of unemployment and said that the "backbone of India's employment sector has been broken by PM Narendra Modi and his friends."
The congress leader was addressing an election rally at Amethi, once popular as a stronghold of Gandhi family, where he opposed PM Modi on the issue of unemployment. He said that in future, youth in the country will not get jobs despite their level of education.
"You will see in the coming times, youth of this country won't get employment, teach them however much you want. No one listened to me during Covid-19, but you saw bodies in Ganga," the former Amethi MP said in the rally.
Responding to an often-raised allegation by the Bharatiya Janata Party that nothing happened in the last 70 years (during Congress’ regime), Rahul said, "they actually meant nothing happened for Ambani, Adani in these 70 years."
"Remember, India's biggest billionaires do not give employment, small shopkeepers, traders, & farmers do," he added.
Amethi seat had been known as homeground for the Nehru-Gandhi family from a very long time but in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Union Minister Smriti Irani won the seat and the bastion of the Congress was breached.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narednra Modi was in the constituency where he addressed a public rally. He took a jib at the opposition saying that political parties "did not even dare to welcome the court's decision" in order to protect their vote bank.
Four out of seven phases of polling for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election have been concluded. The remaining three phases will be held on February 27, March 3 and 7. The votes will be counted on March 10.
