Voting for the final phase of urban local body polls in 38 districts of Uttar Pradesh concluded on Thursday. According to a press statement issued by the state election commission, the overall voting percentage in this phase was recorded at 53 per cent. While the voting percentage in the first phase conducted in 37 districts on May 4 was 52 per cent, which was 5.52 per cent less than the poll percentage recorded in these districts in the 2017 elections.


The elections were held for 17 seats of Mayor, 1,420 of Corporator, 199 of Nagar Palika Parishad Chairperson, 5,327 of Nagar Palika Parishad Member, 544 of Nagar Panchayat Chairperson, and 7,178 seats of Nagar Panchayat Member.


Over 1.92 crore voters were eligible to cast their votes in the second phase, while in the first phase close to 2.40 crore voters were eligible to exercise their franchise.


As many as 39,146 candidates were in the fray in the second round for 6,929 posts, which includes seven mayors and 581 corporators, while in the second phase, 44,232 candidates were in the fray.
