UP Municipal Election Results 2023: Amidst the ongoing UP Municipal elections, Samajwadi Party’s state president Naresh Uttam Patel, on Saturday accused the BJP of interfering with the functioning of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), making a significant claim. According to Patel, the BJP has manipulated the EVMs utilized in the Municipal Corporation polls. In addition, he expressed his lack of faith in the reliability of EVMs.

According to Naresh Uttam Patel, the Samajwadi Party is emerging victorious in the Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar Panchayat elections, while the BJP has allegedly manipulated the results of the Municipal Corporation polls. SP has directed its attention towards EVMs following their loss. The BJP is currently in the forefront of the mayoral races. Moreover, despite claiming victory in the Municipality and Nagar Panchayat polls, the SP has not been performing as well as the BJP in terms of seat count.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has till now recorded five wins in the UP Chunav polls – Ayodhya, Jhansi, Vrindavan-Mathura, Moradabad and Saharanpur, according to the UP state election commission.
With a staggering lead of over 83,000 votes, Bihari Lal Arya, representing the BJP, clinched the position of Mayor in Jhansi. In the meantime, Saharanpur Municipal Corporation saw Ajay Kumar emerge victorious as Mayor, while Moradabad Municipal Corporation saw Vinod Agarwal claim the same position. In Bareilly Municipal Corporation, Umesh Gautam came out on top, and Girishpati Tripathi secured the mayoral post in Ayodhya.
The vote tally for the UP urban local body elections is currently in progress, after a highly competitive campaigning period featuring figures such as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.
The local council election was conducted in a two-part series that took place on May 4 and May 11. Approximately 53 percent of the total 4.32 crore eligible voters exercised their right to vote as per the data provided by the Election Commission.
After the announcement of the results, a total of 1,401 municipal councillors and 17 mayors will be elected. A total of 19 corporators have secured their position without encountering any opposition during the election. This year, Shahjahanpur will have its inaugural mayoral election as the city was granted municipal corporation status in 2018 following the previous civil polls in the state.
