New Delhi: Launching a vitriolic attack on the Opposition as campaigning for the high-voltage Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections gains momentum, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said power was the medium of governance for governments ruled by the families.
Prime Minister Modi said power for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the way to serve the people.
“We are continuously working towards this objective. Our government is making every effort to make the villages and the poor empowered and prosperous,” he said addressing the voters of Mathura, Agra and Bulandshahr through his virtual ‘Jan Chaupal’.
Accusing the earlier governments of being more focused on filling their coffers, Prime Minister Modi said the game plan of such people have been spoiled in the current scenario.
“The family was the government earlier, but now the entire UP is the family of the BJP government,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi said Uttar Pradesh, which is the “heart and heartbeat of India”, has always shown the direction to the country.
“The people of UP have bluntly said that no matter how much politics some people do on the basis of wealth, muscle power casteism, communalism, but they cannot get the love of the people,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi said the people of Uttar Pradesh will bless only those who serve them dedicatedly for their development.
“Those who were in power earlier were neither concerned with your faith nor needs. They have only one agenda, which is to loot UP. They are not concerned with the development of UP, they are only concerned with forming the government,” Prime Minister Modi said.
“The sisters and daughters in UP are today saying with an open heart that they used to feel afraid earlier before leaving their homes but today the criminals are scared in the BJP rule,” he added.
Asserting the world is today learning from India’s efforts, Prime Minister Modi said: “We have provided free ration to crores of people through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for the last two years.”
Prime Minister Modi said the Covid-19 pandemic troubled the world in the last two years.
“Many people had expressed various apprehensions at the beginning of the pandemic. Those people used to think how will our villages and poor be able to save themselves from this pandemic,” said Prime Minister Modi
“The people of UP have benefited a lot from this. It has happened to the poor, downtrodden and backward and is happening even today,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi said the concerns surrounding a roof over the head of the poor is also being removed through the PM Awas Yojana.
“ The government has also made a provision in this budget of about Rs 50,000 crores for the poor who have not got a house. Which will be useful for UP,” said Prime Minister Modi.
“After Yogi ji's government is formed again, the work of giving houses to the poor will be done faster. In the last five years, Yogi ji's government has built about 85,000 houses in Agra, Mathura and Bulandshahr and given them to the poor,” he added.
Escalating his attack on the Opposition, Prime Minister Modi said: “I would definitely like to remind you of the attitude of the fake ‘Samajwadis’ towards the homes of the poor.”
“In the urban areas of Agra, Mathura and Bulandshahr, less than 8,000 houses were built by the previous government for the poor,” he added.
Voting for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7.
The counting of votes will be held on March 10.
