UP Election Results 2022: As predicted by ABP News-CVoter exit poll, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to be forming government in Uttar Pradesh as counting trends give the party a huge lead.

In the counting so far, the BJP seems to bag 250 plus seats, leaving its closest rival Samajwadi Party far behind with around 120 seats. The number is enough for Yogi Adityanath to again form government in the state. In the 403-member assembly, a party needs to secure simple majority of 202 seats.

If the BJP manages a victory in the state as the trend suggests, Yogi Adityanath will become the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive term, breaking 35-year jinx.

Adityanath contested the assembly election for the first time from the Gorakhpur Constituency and is leading by a huge margin in early trends.

The deflection of heavyweights like Swami Prasad Maurya to the Samajwadi party does not seem to have hurt the BJP much. Interestingly, the region of west Uttar Pradesh, centre of farmers' protest, also seems to have voted in favour of the saffron party in large numbers.

In the previous assembly election, BJP had recorded a sweeping victory in this Jat-dominated agriculture region of west Uttar Pradesh.

Though the BJP is set to gain complete majority in the assembly, the numbers this time look a liitle short compared to the 2017 election, when BJP had won 312 constituencies.

Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh was held in seven phases, from February 10 to March 7.
