New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2022, Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary on Monday targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for cancelling his physical rally in Uttar Pradesh due to adverse weather, saying the "weather is bad" for the BJP.
According to BJP officials, preparations for the prime minister's rally had been done at Bijnor's Vardhaman College venue, but he was unable to attend because of inclement weather, PTI reported.
PM Modi later delivered a virtual address at the gathering.
Taking to Twitter, RLD Chief said, "The sun is shining in Bijnor but the weather is bad for the BJP!"
He tweeted a screenshot of a Google weather report that showed a beautiful, sunny day in Bijnor, as well as a TV grab of a news broadcast about the prime minister's physical rally being cancelled due to "inclement weather."
Bijnor in western Uttar Pradesh, bordering Uttarakhand, goes to the polls on February 14 in the second of seven-phase assembly elections.
Chaudhary's remark follows his charges that the BJP has been attempting to attract RLD leaders as well as the party's chief into the saffron fold ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
His remark is also based on accounts of BJP lawmakers confronting hostile audiences during vote campaigning in numerous regions of western Uttar Pradesh in the aftermath of the farmers' agitation.
