New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Saharanpur and address a hybrid rally today. As Saharanpur will go for polls in the second phase of UP elections, PM Modi asked the people to vote for the 'double engine government.


The Prime Minister also focused on the sugarcane farmers of the city and said, "We're working on a permanent solution for sugarcane farmers. To tackle ups and downs of sugar market, sugarcane will also be used to produce ethanol. Rs 12,000 Cr received from sugarcane-based ethanol, which is providing safety to sugarcane farmers."


PM Modi also targeted the opposition parties from Saharanpur and said that a whole 'parivaar-vaad' party is fake promising the UP public. He further said, "...Remember if someone promises big, they're usually empty, irresponsible promises. They promised electricity but kept UP in dark &illuminated their residing district. Left Saharanpur &other districts for themselves."


Slamming the opposition parties PM Modi said asked the people of UP NOT to fall prey to these people. He said,  "When you gave these people a chance, never forget what they did. These people had promised to provide electricity for 22 hours to the cities and 20 hours to the villages but kept the state in the dark."


Seeking support of the Muslim voters PM Modi said that 'Teen Talaq' ban ensured justice for Muslim women. He said as Muslim sisters praise Modi, other parties want to stop these women and keep them away from their rights. They find new ways to stop their aspirations.


The Prime Minister also talked about the Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur riots and launched a scathing attack on the opposition parties. He said, "What happened in Muzaffarnagar was a black spot in UP's history but what happened here in Saharanpur was also horrifying. The Saharanpur riots are proof of how people are targeted under political patronage. Due to such acts, in 2017 you taught a lesson to the rioters."


PM Modi said that BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is very important to ensure small farmers keep on availing benefits of PM Kisan Yojana.


The fight for five states begins as the first phase of the election for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly commenced today. Polling for 58 Assembly constituencies in the districts of Western Uttar Pradesh is taking place.


Among the districts which are undergoing polling today are Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, and Agra.


The contest is intense in the state which is called a litmus test for the political parties at the national level.
