New Delhi: The first phase of polling for the Uttar Pradesh assembly election 2022 will be held on Thursday. 58 assembly constituencies from 11 districts will go to the polls in Phase-1 of UP polls 2022. Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm in these constituencies from the western region of Uttar Pradesh in accordance with the covid-19 guidelines and protocols.   


11 districts going to polls on February 10 are Shamli, Meerut, Hapur, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahar, Aligarh, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Mathura.

Prominent Candidates Contesting In First Phase Of UP Election 2022


Given the proximity of being near the hub of farmers' protest, Western UP is one to watch out for as some big prominent faces are featuring in tomorrow's electoral battle whose fate will be sealed by voters. 


Some prominent BJP candidates in the first phase of the UP assembly election 2022 include former Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya, nine ministers including Suresh Rana, Shrikant Sharma, and Choudhari Lakshmi Narain.


BJP State General Secretary Pankaj Singh, Sangeet Som, Satyaveer Tyagi, and Mriganka Singh are some other big names contesting polls in the first phase.


Samajwadi Party has fielded former Minister Shahid Manzoor along with Nahid Hasan while BSP has fielded Madan Chauhan and Kriparam Sharma during this phase.


Avtar Singh Bhadana, Gajraaj Singh, Tej Pal Singh, and Manisha Ahlawat are some prominent candidates from Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) while Upendra Singh and Pankhuri Pathak from Congress and Pankaj Awana of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are also in the fray.


Assembly Constituencies To Watch Out For In First Phase Of UP Election 2022


Noida: Pankaj Singh, son of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, is up against Sunil Choudhary from Samajwadi Party, Pankhuri Pathak from Congress, and Pankaj Awana from AAP is also in the fray, while BSP's Kriparam Sharma is also tied up in the electoral battle of Noida. 


Kairana: BJP has fielded Mriganka Singh, while the Samajwadi Party candidate is Nahid Hasan, recently arrested by UP Police and remanded to judicial custody. Mriganka and Hasan face a challenge from Nahid Hasan’s sister Iqra Chaudhary who filed her nomination as an independent candidate. Congress candidate Haji Akhlaq and BSP's Rajendra Singh Upadhyay are also contesting from the Kairana seat.


Muzaffarnagar: The current sitting MLA Kapil Dev Aggarwal from BJP is up against Saurabh Swarup Bansal from the SP-RLD alliance. Subodh Sharma from Congress and BSP's Pushpankar Pal are other candidates to watch out for from the Muzaffarnagar assembly seat.


Baghpat: Yogesh Dhama is the sitting BJP MLA and faces competition against Ahmed Hameed from the alliance of SP-RLD. Congress has fielded Anil Dev Tyagi and Arun Kasana from BSP are the other prominent candidates to watch out for.


Mathura: UP's power minister Shrikant Sharma is BJP's candidate from the Mathura assembly seat. In opposition, Samajwadi Party has fielded Devendra Agarwal, BSP has fielded Satish Sharma and Pradeep Mathur of Congress are contesting the assembly seat. 


Loni: BJP has staked its claim on Nandkishore Gurjar against the SP-RLD coalition's candidate Madan Bhaiya. Haji Aqueel of the BSP and Yameen Malik of the Congress is also contesting from the Loni assembly seat.


Agra Rural: BJP's candidate is former Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya from Agra rural assembly seat.  She will be up against RLD's Mahesh Kumar Jatav, BSP's Kiran Prabha Kesari, and Congress' Upendra Singh.


Atrauli: Sandeep Kumar Singh, Kalyan Singh's grandson, has been handed a ticket for the Atrauli constituency by the BJP. He faces opposition from former MLA Viresh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Dharmendra Lodhi from Congress.
