New Delhi: Aparna Yadav, the daughter-in-law of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, joined BJP in presence of Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh, and other leaders on Wednesday.

On joining the party, Aparna Yadav said that working for the nation has always been her priority. "For me, the nation comes first. And my move (to join BJP) signifies that nation comes first for me," she said in Delhi.

"I admire PM Modi's work and have always been impressed by schemes announced by the Centre", Aparna Yadav added after joining BJP ahead of UP assembly polls 2022.

Aparna Yadav is Mulayam Singh's younger son Pratik Yadav's spouse. Aparna holds a Master's degree in International Relations & Politics from the University Of Manchester, UK.

Aparna and Pratik Yadav got engaged in 2010. Both were married in December 2011 in Saifai, the native village of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Both have a daughter, whose name is Pratham.

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly election, Aparna Yadav ran for the Lucknow Cantt seat and was defeated by BJP candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

Aparna Yadav joining BJP is being seen as a tit-for-tat move by BJP after last week's setback to the Yogi-led UP govt with the exit of three state cabinet ministers and several MLAs joining forces with Akhilesh Yadav's SP.
