New Delhi: Congress has announced a list of 17 candidates for the upcoming Tripura Assembly Election. Lone MLA of the party, Sudip Roy Barman, would be contesting from the Agartala seat.






The party also released its list of star campaigners for the upcoming assembly election in Tripura. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Rahul Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra feature in the list of campaigners.


Congress Chief Ministers Bhupesh Baghel, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Ashok Gehlot, senior leaders Sachin Pilot, Gaurav Gogoi, Pawan Khera, and Supriya Srinate are also on the list.






Besides them, other names include Kanhaiya Kumar, B.V. Srinivas, Jignesh Mevani, and Alka Lamba.


BJP Announces Names Of Candidates


The Bharatiya Janta Party on Saturday announced the names of 48 candidates for the upcoming Tripura elections. The names of the remaining 12 candidates will be announced soon.


Chief Minister Manik Saha will contest the polls from Town Bordowali, Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik from Dhanpur, Md Moboshar Ali, who joined the party on Friday, will contest from Kailashahar.


Interestingly, former Tripura CM Biplab Deb will not be contesting the polls this time and state BJP chief Rajiv Bhattacharjee will fight the polls from his seat, Banamalipur.






 


Tripura Election Schedule


The Tripura Assembly election schedule, announced by the Election Commission on January 18, remains unchanged, Chief Electoral Officer Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao said on Friday, citing "confusing posts" on various social media sites.


The CEO, while talking to the media, said that regarding any information and dates every one must follow the EC website, Twitter handle and Facebook page. He said that after the issuance of the notification by the Election Commission on January 21, 76 candidates of various political parties, including main opposition CPI-M, filed their nomination papers so far.


With the election to the 60-seat Tripura assembly would be held on February 16, the last date for filing nomination papers is January 30 and the scrutiny of papers and relevant documents would be done the next day. The last date for withdrawal of the candidatures is February 2.


The votes polled will be counted on March 2.
