Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday thanked the people of Karnataka for electing the party to power in the state saying the mandate is for a pro-people's government. In a video message, the former party chief said, "I wish to thank of all of you, the people of Karnataka for giving the Congress party such an historic mandate. This mandate is for a pro-people's, pro-poor government." Her statement came hours after Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar took the oath of office of Karnataka Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister respectively. 


Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party, she said that the mandate "is a rejection of the politics of divisiveness and corruption." 


She also reassured that the Congress government which has been sworn-in today will stand by its commitment to implement the promises made to them. 






"I am proud that the first cabinet meeting has already approved immedaite implementation of five guarantees," she said as CM Siddaramaiah issued order to implement Gruha Lakshmi scheme and Anna Bhagya Yojana. 


Under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, financial assistance of Rs 2,000 a month will be provided to every woman head of household in the state while under Anna Bhagya Yojana, 10 kilograms of rice per person per month to BPL families free of cost.

Following the swearing-in ceremony on Saturday, Siddaramaiah assured that his government would fulfil the aspirations of the people. While addressing a press conference, he said that his government has given “in principle” approval to the five Congress' guarantees in the first Cabinet meeting. 


“Five guarantees in the manifesto were promised and the order for the implementation of those five guarantees was given after the first cabinet meeting. All will be in force after next cabinet meeting which will be called within a week,” he said during the press conference held in Vidhan Soudha.
