Telangana Assembly Elections: Just a few weeks before the Telangana polls, the president of YSR Telangana Party and sister of Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, YS Sharmila Reddy has said that her party will not contest the upcoming state elections and would rather support the Congress. Calling the decision a "sacrifice", she said that the decision has been taken to ensure Congress's vote is not split. YS Sharmila said that the time has come to dislodge the "draconian" rule of Telangana Chief Minister KCR.

"Time always gives us a choice that history will remember…and now is the opportunity to choose between the political interest and larger public interest. Today, I stand at this critical juncture of sacrifice, where the YSR Telangana Party has decided to back out from contesting in the upcoming Telangana elections," she said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

"This is to ensure Congress’ vote is not split, since surveys show the YSR Telangana Party will dent their vote bank in many constituencies. Ground is set to dislodge the draconian rule of KCR, which is a historic and immediate need to save Telangana. I have always stood for the larger cause of Telangana and everything else comes next.," she added. She further urged the leaders and workers of her party, as well as the "fans" to vote for the Congress party.

Telangana will vote on November 30 while the results will be declared on December 3.
