Congress leader Palvai Sravanthi on Sunday resigned from the party and joined Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’ Bharat Rashtra Samithi ahead of the November 30 Assembly polls in Telangana. The former Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson alleged that she encountered glass ceiling and humiliation in the party which compelled her to switch sides with BRS. 


“I very strongly believe one needs respect and honour of being recognised as a leader...but I found it totally lacking in the Congress party,” she told news agency ANI. 






“This time the kind of glass ceiling and humiliation that I have encountered have given me a different perspective and view and a need for me to move forward, out of the old trap and into a new beginning,” she added. 


Sravanthi resigned on Saturday after being denied a ticket by Congress to contest the polls and joined the ruling BRS at a programme held at the party headquarters in Hyderabad's Telangana Bhavan. BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao welcomed her into the party, according to an IANS report.

She sent a letter to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, stating that ever since Revanth Reddy was imported into the party, he had been scripting its end in spirit, nullifying the values and principles that the party stood for.


KTR criticised the Congress saying it was unfortunate that the party did not give due respect to Sravanthi, whose father had served the Congress from the times of Jawaharlal Nehru.
