NEW DELHI: Ahead of the election in the state, an independent candidate in Telangana was seen distributing chappals to voters in his constituency. The reason behind the distribution is if he is elected and fails to deliver on the promises he has made, the voters should beat him with those very chappals. "If I fail to bring development in my constituency then voters hold a right to publicly hit me with slippers," he said.

The man behind this campaign is Akula Hanumandlu who is an independent candidate in the Koratla constituency of Telangana. In photographs shared by news agency ANI, with his on a door-to-door campaigning, he was seen handing out slippers to voters and asking them to hit him if he failed to deliver his promises.

Hanumanth's smart campaigning trick has caught the attention of Korutla, but one has to wait to see if this approach would help him to win the seat. Notably, Korutla is an important seat, currently represented by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi's MLA K Vidyasagar Rao.

Elections to the 119-member assembly will be held on December 7 and the counting would be on December 11.
