The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday announced the second list consisting of nine candidates for the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Elections. The saffron party fielded Bhim Kumar Sharma from the Gyalshing-Barnyak constituency, Aruna Manger from Namchi-Singhithan, and Yogen Rai from Melli. Phurba Rinzing Sherpa, Pempo Tshering Lepcha, Chewang Dadul Bhutia, and Niren Bhandari among others are also in the fray.
BJP on Sunday released its first list of 14 candidates for the upcoming Sikkim Assembly elections. In its first list, the saffron party named, Narendra Kumar Subba from Maneybung-Dentam, Sancho Lepcha from Rinchenpong, Sanchaman Limboo from Yangthang, and Dilli Ram Thapa from Upper Burtuk, among other candidates.
The Congress party released its first list of 18 candidates for the Sikkim Assembly elections on Sunday. The list included Mangal Subba from Yangthang, Karma Loday Lepcha from Rinchenpong, Kamal Lepcha from Yoksam Tashiding, Sandup Lepcha from Tumen Lengi,Dinesh Darjee from Salghari Zoom, Srayes Subba from Gyalshing Barmyak, and Binod Tikhatri from West Pendum, among other candidates.
Meanwhile, BJP on Saturday called off its alliance with the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM). It stated that the party will fight alone in the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state.
Sikkim is currently ruled by the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), with CM Prem Singh Tamang governing its 17 constituencies.
As announced by the Election Commission, the Sikkim Assembly Elections 2024 will be held on April 19, 2024 during phase 1. The northeastern state will elect 32 members through the assembly polls as the tenure of the current government is scheduled to end on June 2. Thereafter, the counting of votes for the 32 assembly seats will be held on June 2 and for the lone Lok Sabha seat on June 4.
